Once we hit our 40s and beyond, the skin around our eyes starts to change. It becomes thinner, drier, and more prone to fine lines, puffiness, and dark circles. The right eye cream can make a dramatic difference—especially formulas rich in lipids, peptides, antioxidants, and gentle retinol. So, here is round 1 of all of the eye creams I have tried and what is better for what problem you are trying to solve.
This guide compares some of the best eye creams from Hey Honey, Acure, DHC, Skinfix, Eczema Honey and Farmacy. Each one offers something unique for mature skin, whether your concerns are wrinkles, dryness, sensitivity, or dark circles.
Do you need an eye cream for your eye area specially as you age has been a debate for years. If you are 30 and under probably not. However, many brands make some great eye creams that are formulated to penetrate deeper into this area without the irritation. Those of us getting the sensitive and dry eyes as we age can relate to this irritation, dryness and itchy eyes.
It is up to your ultimately if you want a separate eye cream. As you can see I have tried so many and I am going to continue down the eye cream route. In rounds 2 and 3 , to follow – I will go over the same as in this post but with different products from drugstore to higher end (as in this round 1).
We will explore what each one of these excels in and how each formula is on the skin. For reference, I have combination skin that is more on the dry side on the cheek area. The under eyes are sensitive and maturing at a normal rate (which is a rate that I don’t care for).
Hey Honey – Best for Lightweight Hydration & Gentle Firming
Hey Honey Open Your Eyes Lifting Eye Serum
A silky, lightweight serum that absorbs quickly and layers beautifully under makeup. Honey extracts hydrate while peptides help support firmness. Best for mild puffiness, early fine lines and dullness. Feels hydrating for a few hours like most moisturizers. Hydrates without heaviness and brightens tired eyes. Does add a bit more of exclusiveness to the eyes. Meaning a bit more protection as if you a vaseline based product on your eyes, but without the greasey feel.
I did use this one all of the way up. Like most I am reviewing. If I don’t like them I throw them out to be honest.
Acure – Best Budget Retinol Eye Cream for Smoothing Lines
Acure Resilience Eye Balm with Encapsulated Retinol
This balm delivers retinol in a gentle, encapsulated form—perfect for mature skin that wants results without irritation. Best for fine lines, firmness and crepey texture. It works by the power of retinol (the weakest in the Vitamin A or gold standard). It has nourishing oils that keep the under eye are soft and supple.
I like it because it acts more like a balm. Its texture is more like that as well. I used this most of the time over my other eye cream. Not that I had to. I just wanted to. It kept the moisture in this way and it didn’t affect makeup application at all.
As I try other stick balms in the future I will let you know how this one compare
DHC – Best for Deep Hydration & Crepey Texture
DHC Concentrated Eye Cream
A rich, cushiony cream that deeply hydrates and smooths crepey skin. A favorite for those who need moisture. It is best for dryness, texture and softening lines. I would say this one is a great emollient moisturizer. It doesn’t have the peptides, retinols or other science based ingredients. Just a simple moisturizer. Not that this is bad. It has a great amount of emollient in the formula. Emollients plump up the thin, delicate skin under the eyes.
Will I purchase again? Probably not. I want more skin communicating ingredients and my eyes are not that sensitive.
Skinfix – Best Clinical Formula for Anti‑Aging + Barrier Repair
Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid‑Boost 360° Eye Cream
A powerhouse formula with lipids, peptides, and brightening ingredients. It targets hydration, firmness, dark circles, and barrier repair all at once. This can help with dark circles, dryness and overall rejuvenation. It doesn’t have the power of the Vitamin A family. But it does have triple lips that strengthen the skin barrier which is essential for mature skin.
Now, I know people compare Skinfix to CeraVe. They are not as close as people seem to state. They both has multiple lipids and fatty acids. I am not knocking CeraVe at all I have been using that product since it first came out and was only in the dermatologist’s offices. Both great brands. I am saying that for my skin, Skinfix does a better job. Especially at barrier repair.
Would I buy this one again? yes, I already have. I have 3 containers right now in my collection. It does that well for repairing under the eyes if I have gotten just a bit too much sun or exfoliated too much. The next product does that well also.
Eczema Honey–Style Products – Best for Sensitive or Irritated Under‑Eyes
Manuka Honey–based balms (like Balm of Gilead)
These soothing balms (not really a balm more like a thicker moisturizer) are ideal for eczema‑prone or reactive under‑eyes. They calm irritation and deeply moisturize. Best for sensitivity, irritation and flakiness. It works for mature skin as it becomes more reactive, honey and tallow restore comfort and hydration.
I liked this one as well. It did feel great on the under eyes. If you don’t have the irritated underages, it is probably not your best bet. You need to look at what you have going on with your skin and pick from there.
Farmacy – Best for Brightening, Smoothing & Dark Circles
Farmacy Cheer Up Brightening Vitamin C Eye Cream
A lightweight cream powered by vitamin C, acerola cherry, and hyaluronic acid. It brightens dark circles, hydrates, and smooths fine lines without irritation. Don’t be all excited about the hype words hyaluronic acid especially if you live in a dry climate. Does very little for you. But vitamin C and acerola cherry. Great ingredients to brighting the under eye. They boost radiance. If all you see is under your eyes is the darkness. Then this one might be a good one for you.
The packaging is different and I don’t think you are getting a lot of product for your money. But with eye creams are you ever? Eye creams are less than surgery. Although plastic surgery under the eyes is the fastest growing and becoming one of the most popular forms of plastic surgery right now.

Bottom line
There is not one eye cream that works fabulously for everyone. Everyone’s under eyes are different from sensitivities, skin type, environment, personal preference and habits. I am just trying to give you a base of information. AI will give you want the “beauty” world advertises. They advertise the dream. There isn’t a dream for the under eyes.
There can be improvement and that is what I am looking for in an eye cream.
TIPS: Vaseline or Aquaphor under your eyes at night and don’t use shape tape concealer.
