There’s a certain kind of beauty that doesn’t fade—it deepens. It softens. It becomes something richer, something lived‑in. Marilyn Monroe had that kind of beauty, the kind that wasn’t just seen but felt. It doesn’t matter that her life, her death are intertwined in such tragedy. It somehow makes her life and legend able to resontant better with everyone. Or atleast an aspect of it.

And now, as Los Angeles celebrates what would have been her 150th birthday, the city feels wrapped in a gentle shimmer, as if the air itself remembers her. That may be a bit dramatic but non the less true. As memorabilia is showing up every where.

And especially for us women over 40, this milestone hits differently. Marilyn’s story—her reinvention, her vulnerability, her determination—feels less like Hollywood mythology and more like a mirror. We know what it means to rebuild ourselves. We know what it means to glow from the inside out.

A Museum Experience That Feels Like Opening Her Vanity Drawer

The anniversary exhibit in Los Angeles doesn’t shout; it whispers. It invites you in slowly, like stepping into someone’s dressing room while they’re still deciding who they want to be that day. The lighting is soft, the atmosphere warm, and the displays feel almost intimate.

Marilyn’s original makeup sits behind glass, but it doesn’t feel distant. Her compacts are worn in that familiar way—edges smoothed by fingertips, lids loosened from daily use. Her lipsticks, still bold even after decades, look like they were set down just moments ago. There’s a tenderness in seeing her eyebrow pencils, sharpened down to tiny stubs, as if she used every last bit of them before moving on.

For women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond, it’s a reminder that beauty isn’t about chasing youth. It’s about honoring the rituals that help us feel present, confident, and connected to ourselves.

We invison those metal vintage makeup packaging and the long stemmed handheld mirror with the matching brushes. Large power puffs. Just the nostalgia of it all. From many of the movies that we may have seen on the oldies channel late at night.

Lisa Eldridge’s Tribute: Old Hollywood Glow Meets Mature‑Skin Magic

To celebrate Marilyn’s 150th, Lisa Eldridge created a limited‑edition collection that feels like a bridge between eras—Marilyn’s world and ours. And because I couldn’t resist, I purchased the highlighter and the beautifully designed boxes from the collection. They arrived like tiny treasures, each one echoing the elegance of vintage Hollywood without feeling trapped in the past.

The highlighter itself is a quiet marvel. It doesn’t scream for attention; it glows. It gives that candlelit softness Marilyn was known for, but with a modern formula that respects mature skin. No settling, no harsh shimmer—just a gentle radiance that feels like it’s coming from within. When I applied it for the first time, I understood immediately why Lisa created it for this celebration. It’s not about looking like Marilyn. It’s about honoring the part of ourselves that still loves to shine.

Seeing Lisa’s collection and watching the collection of Marilyn’s original makeup in the museum is unexpectedly emotional. It’s a conversation across time—Marilyn’s tools of transformation and ours. Her glow, reimagined for women who have lived enough life to appreciate the quiet power of subtle beauty.

I am sure if Lisa saw my picture, she would say this doesn’t do my highlighter justice. She would be correct. It really is a very creamy subtle highlighter. That gives an amazing glow to the skin. Lisa also has the amazing lipstick creation to go with the collection.

Why Marilyn Still Matters at 150

Marilyn’s legacy isn’t just glamour. It’s resilience. Reinvention. Softness in the face of scrutiny. She reminds us that beauty evolves, that confidence can be learned, and that a woman’s glow doesn’t dim with age—it becomes more intentional.

At 150, Marilyn feels less like a distant icon and more like a companion on the journey. Someone who understood the art of becoming. Someone who knew that beauty is not a performance—it’s a language.

And in Los Angeles, under museum lights and through Lisa Eldridge’s thoughtful tribute, her story feels alive again. Not frozen in time, but continuing—through us, through our rituals, through the ways we choose to glow.

A Celebration for Women Who Know The Power of Their Own Light

After viewing the exhibit (there are several good videos of it on YouTube as well), you don’t feel like you’ve visited a legend. You feel like you’ve spent time with a woman who understood the complexity of being seen. And maybe that’s why this celebration resonates so deeply with Twilight Kaleidoscope readers. We know what it means to carry our stories in our skin. We know what it means to shine differently at 40, 50, 60, and beyond.

Marilyn’s 150th birthday isn’t just a tribute to her. It’s a tribute to every woman who has learned to glow on her own terms.
