Welcome to the New Year! What do you want from this new year? New Year’s resolutions are always so ambitious and they fizzle out quickly. You need to achieve them this year, but it requires dedication and strategy. Hence here, are some tips to help you turn your aspirations into reality:
Tips for Achieving Your Goals
- Be Specific: Clearly define your goals. (If your goal is to get into shape, define what you want to get into shape. Is your goal to have abs? sculpted arms? Break it down and define it!
- Set Realistic Targets: Ambition is great, but by not setting unattainable goals can lead to frustration and demotivation. Consider how much time you have to dedicate to achieving your goals. Determine if you can do that in the long term.
- Create a Plan: Break down your goals into smaller, manageable steps. (if you need help to achieve your goals – there is help for everything out there. Choose carefully what help you choose to achieve your goals. Is it a reliable source? Is it you? Or is it really out of your wheelhouse? Is it something you can see yourself doing long term?) For example, If you have a fitness goal there is Nike Training Club. It has something for everyone from beginners to advanced. Furthermore, some of the routines on the app are so simple. They are effective enough to do whenever you find a small break. Things like this will help you reach your goals.
- Stay Flexible: Circumstances change. Your approach needs to adapt to it. Be open to adjusting your plan as needed. (Time is a hard thing to keep a hold of and important things come up. Above all, you need to evaluate if that thing is more “important” than your goals.
- Stay Accountable: Share your goals with someone who can support and keep you accountable. Additionally, you can also set up a chart with milestones for achieving your goals. Or set up reminders. (There is a reminders program on the Mac – it can help you get on track and stay on it).
- Time Management: I am so guilty of letting time get away from me. Thinking you have time for everything or quite a few things, isn’t realistic. I am starting to give myself timers to complete my task at hand. It has helped me realize the actual time it takes for things. Additionally, I am hoping this will help me stay accountable so I can achieve my goals.
- Visualize Success: Imagine yourself achieving your goals. Visualization can be a powerful motivator. Have you heard of mood boards? They are so inspiring and I love creating mood boards. Furthermore, we will be exploring mood boards in future blogs.
- Stay Positive: It’s natural to encounter setbacks; the key is to stay positive and keep pushing forward. If you don’t make it start again in the 2nd qtr or the 3rd or the 4th. Remember you have still make some progress on achieving your goals even if you don’t make it. Be proud of who you are and remember you aren’t the only one that has life interfere with goals.
- Once begun is 1/2 done: Starting is the first step in achieving those goals. Start the new year off with starting and be proud of that progress as well.
Remember, the journey to achieving your goals can be as rewarding as reaching the destination. Cheers!
Update:
I started out well but then it didn’t keep up with it. I will be starting out again and I am preparing now in the fall for this to start after the first of the year. My goals are financial and a stricter budget with less commercialism/materialism. Now I am moving on to Taking charge of my new life.
Talking charge of your life:
Declutter First
This helps you remove obstacles in your life and also simply. There are plenty of items in your house. These items can go to others who can use them instead of them collecting dust and cluttering up your space. It may be helpful to start with a goal. For example, you have 4 totes of items. Then set out to eliminate 1/3 of these totes. The same can go for a closet area.
More ideas:
- Purge unused items: You may consider removing or taking to good will anything you have used in the past two years. Or sent pictures to your group chats to see if they would like any of these items.
- Use the “one in, one out” rule: For every new item you bring in.
- Start with high-impact areas: Focus on spaces like the kitchen, entryway, and bathroom for immediate relief.
