Styling those trendy donut vases with a unique flare

Styling those “trendy” donut vases with a unique flare can be challenging. These donut vases have been seen everywhere. I can’t even tell you how many decorator websites or Pinterest pictures I have seen them in. H&M was the first place I saw them and I had to get them. That was over 5 years ago now.

I still like the look of them. Even though several decorating websites say don’t ever use this in your home. To that I say, you don’t live in my home and I don’t have the budget for your $2,000 Italian marble vase. That I wouldn’t get anyway. Besides, there must be a reason I see them in a bunch of pictures still. If you want some get a pair like I have, they are on Amazon for a set for around $24.00 or more depending on the size.

Floral arrangement for your unique flare

These vases even if they are a different shape remind me of those southwestern pots with two side arm vases. This is because the floral arrangement hangs to one side in one vase arm. In other words, it is the 35-degree arrangement that I am reminded of.

I do enjoy an A-symmetrical for these donut vases and that is the simplest way to display an arrangement or even a floral stem. It looks nice in so many rooms.

Planning your arrangement for a donut vase

It is some trial and error if you want to have a fuller bouquet arrangement in these donut vases. I didn’t think about it when I purchased them. It isn’t flat at the bottom of the vase arm it is rounded. If you get the bouquet arranged and the stems are the same diameter or a bit bigger than the opening. It is possible that you could put a rubberband around it and squish those stems in there. In theory.

Again, the round shape inside will cause an issue so you have to keep removing the arrangement to snip off the stem around the shape inside. Or cut the stems stubby. I don’t know about you but I like to reuse and rearrange my stems in arrangements for years to come. Therefore, I am not cutting them stubby.

Pampas grass display

Liking the pampas grass display on some of these types of vases. I decided to go with that.

The pampas grass that I purchased from Amazon was nice but is not full when you get it at all. The instructions state to put it out in the sun and it will plump up. Mine did not. I was not impressed with this situation. I knew that when I purchased it, it wasn’t going to be like a duster. Was a little more poof too much to ask? I got another idea. Using a heat gun (which you could use as a hair dryer or embossing gun), I moved the grass around as the heat gun fluffed it up. Some of the grass would get to be a different color with the heat depending on how close I got it. The color was nice just a subtle difference but even so it added dimension.

Arranging the grass and wheat in different areas wasn’t too bad. I did use a drop of hot glue at the back and the front. This gave me a couple of anchors in which to gauge everything else. I like how it turned out.

The little donut vase was styled with just a single stem of fake leaves. I thought that gave some contrast to the very neutral tones but still brought nature in, in a way.

You may like the donut vase with just a stem hanging out of one arm and that is perfect if that is how you like it.
