Simple Snoopy Party Decor

Deciding to attempt to do a simple Snoopy Party Decor made from all Dollar Tree items in a short amount of time may have been too ambitious. That is me, I always have ideas but they are so hard to execute in the amount of time that I have available. This may become a recurring theme on this website as that is just me.

Mail Box

I am not sure that you will ever be asked to make a mailbox. If you are here are some ideas for completing that task.

You will need paint, cardboard boxes, letters, masking tape, file folder, thumb tacks or furniture tabs. All items from the Dollar Tree except for the cardboard boxes.

I received a Shark hydro vac cordless pro for Christmas (and I love it). The box was perfect for this project. The two side tabs or flaps on the box were cut into a half circle and then the file folder was glued on those half circles. I used 1 file folder but it would probably be better with a few of them. It is painted with blue and black. After the masking tape was applied in layers on the seams with the furniture tabs applied. They didn’t stick as well as I hoped in some areas. Thumb tacks were then applied which worked great and added extra strength to the hold on the rounded parts.

It took 3 or 4 coats. I believe this was because the box had a clear glossy film on it so the paint didn’t want to stick. Everything is Dollar Tree that was applied to the box except for at the end I did spray it with a matte clear coat which really brought out the blue paint and made it a bit darker.

Final mailbox picture all set up

I was hoping to get a more detailed picture of the masking tape that was used on the seams. It helped to hid those seams as I mentioned but it also built them up to show definition. You probably see the grass runner and the little flowers in the final display. They are also all from the Dollar Tree. The grass runner was $5.00 however. Grass runner has a rubber backing and looks just as good as the ones that i have seen at Michaels for $25.00.

Small details is what made the Snoopy Decor scene

Those little flowers made it look like a real scene. As well, as the envelopes are what is fallen out of snoopy’s hands and a heat gun was used to shape them and it was very easy. Those envelopes (made of foam) are hung from the ceiling with a fishtape line which you can also get at the Dollar Tree.

Snoopy’s Home or Dog House Decor

Snoopy House was also made from cardboard boxes. It is pretty easy to see how they were used for this project. The cardboard was covered in a red tablecloth and the black lines were electrical tape. Hot glue was used to glue the boxes together.

It was faster to use the red tablecloth than paint the box because the box would eat up the paint and take a lot of coats to make it the red needed for this project. And we had a very short time frame.

Electrical tape was cut in half lengthwise in a crooked manner to make the lines like Snoopy’s. You could put this together with an older child for a crafty learning experience.

Felt was used for the door with electrical tape around the edges.

Not to say that the project took no time at all it did take time. It was done in spurts of 10 to 30 min at a time.

This scene was done for a valentine’s scene but you could adapt it for any scene. Some ideas would be a birthday party with gifts in Snoopy’s hands or change up the whole thing to adapt to your occasion.

When it was set up the house also had flowers around it and the grass runner and Woodstock was mounted above it.

Snoopy’s Head

Snoopy’s head

This is the beginning of Snoopy. It is made from styrofoam balls, styrofoam circle, felt, floral wire, and stick-on eyes all from Dollar Tree. The felt that my dollar tree had wasn’t as wide or long as needed to cover Snoopy’s full head so underneath it, there had a strip down the center and the back part of the head had to have a circle of felt which looked funny. So, I decided to make Snoopy a pair of sunglasses (see below) to hid that seam.

Ears

The ears were felt in 2 pieces for each ear. I wanted them to move like there was wind because we had cards falling and some were going to be held by fishing lines from the ceiling. I took one cut-out ear and ran a floral wire near the edge. Then glued that on with school glue with dots of hot glue on the ends to hold it while it dried. Then put the other cut-out earpiece on top to hide the wire.

Body

The body was much harder to try and get the shape. The styrofoam ball were not big enough so I had cardboard strips to built up around it for the body and then tissue paper around the cardboard for the shape. The Dollar Tree has some yellow fabric squares not exactly what I wanted but white paint took care of the color and electrical tape was used for his collar.

Feet

Snoopy’s feet were also a challenge, but this is what I came up with for those. There were these squishy balls in the kids’ toy section. They were not that squishy but they had a little give to them. I cut one of them into two pieces right down the middle. It wasn’t easy that ball was more solid than I thought and didn’t want to be cut.

The picture will show you the set up and then I covered with felt for the feet. The black feet under his feet were just for a shadow as he walked and not necessary.

You have to get creative in a challenge like this and I think I spent about $25.00 in all for the project.

Not including grass the grass runners which were separate and I got two. I used them right before this display for a football theme for the Super Bowl with white electrical tape for the lines on the field. Then I will also be using this for St. Patrick’s Day and Easter. Grass in the winter just makes you happy.

The runners are well worth the $5.00. Get them.

Sunnies

This is a piece of wax paper, that I lined up over the sunglasses that I cut out of foam for Snoopy. I used a pair of my sunglasses as a guide for the glasses. To make the lens, I needed to see how big they should be and I had purchased silver tape from the Dollar Tree. The tape was with all the tapes with the prints on them. I don’t know what they are called, but there were quite a few designs to choose from in the display.

I put tape over my markers for the lens and then turned it over and cut it out as shown in the picture. If I had tiny precision scissors I would have used those but the scissors I had just were a bit big and the cuts on this tape were not looking right.

Running out of supplies

Here is Snoopy with his sunglasses on his head. His nose is just straps from the felt after cutting his earpieces. I didn’t make a mouth for him as I thought the cards would cover that part. There are enough scraps left over for the mouth so there would be no problem with making one.

My local Dollar Trees didn’t have any more pieces of the white or black foam that was previously used for this project. They did have this more dense white material. I didn’t like working with it, it didn’t have the mobility of the other foam. However, you do to will what you can get from the Dollar Tree for this display.

What kind of a display can you make for Snoopy with all Dollar Tree items? I hope you get some ideas or inspiration for something else from this post. Good luck!
