Shaving my face for years, but why?

Flawless Rotating Shaver

I have been shaving my face for years, but why would you shave your face? In two words – Peach Fuzz. I wouldn’t say that it looks like I have quite a bit of hair on my face. There isn’t a guide to a “normal” amount of peach fuzz on a person’s face. This is regulated by your genetics, however, we all have peach fuzz. It is all normal.

Maturing skin and adolescent skin

Maturing skin may have a possibility of more peach fuzz because of estrogen lowering or other conditions. Quite a few adolescents also experience an increase during puberty. It causes distress no matter your age. One thing that I know is different in maturing skin is the increase of stray eyebrow hairs that like to take on a life of their own on your chin. Never a fun aspect of life.

Many articles discourage teens and adults (besides males) from shaving their faces. Stating it will grow back thicker. There is no evidence of this or I would shave my head to have the hair grow back thicker. It may appear to be a bit thicker as it comes back in because when it was shaved it no longer has that pointed end. It now has a blunt end from being shaved. Look at the ends of your hair on your head before you get your hair cut and then after you get it cut. There is a difference but with the amount of your face, it should be a minimal difference. If you want to shave your face, don’t let that difference discourage you.

Advantages of shaving your face

The main advantage of shaving my face is the smoothness. The smoothness comes from, of course, the removal of the hair. It also comes from the removal of dead cells. Much like in exfoliation but much more slight. The smoothness is felt by the touch and it is nice to feel that smoothness.

Shaving your face and makeup application

The best advantage to shaving your face is the application of makeup. It looks so good and smooth. Makeup doesn’t get caught on the peach fuzz, which in my opinion can accent your peach fuzz even more. This may be why makeup users notice peach fuzz more. Anyway, the application after shaving looks almost airbrushed to me.

Dermaplaning vs Shaving

Dermaplaning is with a tiny, single blade that is held along the face at a slight angle to remove the hair from the face. I have found you need to go very slow with it and be careful. Don’t use too much pressure. Some people prefer this method because it removes more dead cells for more exfoliation.

I have had this professionally done. The main difference between doing it yourself with a dermaplaning shaver and professionally done is that professionals remove a lot more hair. They have the advantage of seeing your face from different angles so they can remove the hair more effectively. They also have lighting and you are usually more still in the chair than you are in front of the mirror doing it yourself. It was a bit rougher on my sensitive skin when it was professionally done.

Shaving your face with a shaver or a rotating shaver

Shavers

Which do you prefer a regular shaver or a rotating shaver? I usually prefer a regular shaver. Easy and fast. Also very effective, it gets the closes shave next to dermaplaning in my opinion.

However, the rotating shaver is the most gentle and works great even as a touch-up for anywhere on the face. This is so easy to get out and remove that very quickly. This would be the starting place for anyone new to shaving.

Tips for rotating shaver

Be sure to look for different angles. Blades need to be changed out of this one quite often. It is so easy to change out the blades and clean out the shaver. Unscrew the top and clean out the chamber with a cotton bud and alcohol. Then screw a new blade on the shaver.

This one is a Flawless Brand, but I know Amazon has several less expensive others. I can’t state if they are better or worse than the Flawless brand. This one has lasted me for 10 years now. I just replaced the blades.

Cleanliness

Cleanliness with any shaver is important because you don’t want to irritate your skin or cause any blemishes from an uncleaned tool. The dermaplaning blades are very inexpensive so just throw away after 1 use. Unless you get a pro dermaplaning tool and those you buy replacement blades.

If you choose a regular shaver get one just for shaving your face. That way it doesn’t have anything on it from your body. I use a shaving lotion for my face because I like to see where I have shaved and it helps with any irritation.

Laser reduction of hair

Hopefully, this has helped with a few ways of doing it if you choose. I will be going over the lasers that are to help with the reduction of hair on the whole body. Most of these devices work better after you have shaved the hair. If that is an option you are considering as well. Shaving is the first step in that process.
