I am sure you have all heard of the New viral Chanel “dupe” with microdroplet technology from Cover Girl. There are something like 700+ reviews on Ulta already – mainly brief reviews. The following are my opinions and may not be yours. I have a maturing, combination skin type and I use rx retinol.
The new viral Chanel “dupe” is Covergirl, Simply Ageless Skin Perfector Essence Foundation, it is $21.49 at Ulta. That is a bit pricey CoverGirl or what you usually see from this brand. This Foundation does have microdroplet technology which means the pigments are suspended in small droplets that don’t burst until after it is pumped out of the container. This technology seems to be a bit pricey because the product that this supposedly a “dupe” is $70.00.
My thoughts on the “dupe” for Chanel
Full disclosure, I haven’t ever found too much in the Cover Girl line except for mascara that I enjoyed. This one isn’t any different. It isn’t because it is light coverage, I like that part of this formula. When it first goes on it is nice, you look like you have healthy, bouncy skin. I thought, well, this one might be a winner. Within about an hour or so, it clung to dry patches and my face felt tight and dry. The formula wasn’t long-lasting on me.
Ingredients
Taking a look at the ingredients, CoverGirl states it is 71% water. Okay, that is quite a bit of water for a foundation, and water isn’t known to be moisturizing. Glycerin is the next ingredient and it is an excellent hydrator. All of the ingredients according to Ulta’s website for this product are below:
Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Hexyl Laurate, Propanediol, Octyldodecanol, Pentylene Glycol, Benzyl Alcohol, Bakuchiol, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Aluminum Hydroxide, Carbomer, Amodimethicone, Propylene Carbonate, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Lysine, Sodium Hydroxide, Alcaligenes Polysaccharides, Magnesium Chloride, Tranexamic Acid. May Contain: Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).
So, that was strange to me that my skin felt so dry. I know this formula has Bakuchiol at .5% per CoverGirl’s media advertising, which is said to be a natural alternative to retinol. I still do not believe that ingredient would be that drying especially for the amount that is in this formula. It is disappointing as I did want to find an alternative to one of the two formulas that came on the market before this one.
Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tent
They say imitation is the best form of flattery, I am not sure that makeup brands feel the same. However, I don’t think that this “viral” dupe lives up to Chanel LES BEIGES Water-Fresh Tint. Now, I only used Chanel for 5 days because I had 2 samples of the product. I wanted to get a couple of samples if I am going to spend $70.00 on a foundation. Besides, this line only has 8 shades so it is a bit hard to decide on which one is going to match your skin.
I did like it. It never felt drying on my face and I didn’t have any clinging issues. The formula was not a long-lasting formula on my skin but it did last a fair amount of time. It adds a glow to your face as if you are not wearing foundation at all. It is not high coverage but there is some coverage there. If you want the no makeup, makeup look this one is a beautiful option.
This product has something called MicroFluidic technology and they have patented this technology. Microdroplets are not patented. This skin tint has 75% water and glycerin (just like the Cover Girl formula), but I didn’t have a problem with the drying. It could be due to the MicroFluidic technology or to what Chanel states, “Natural tamarind seed extract, known for its moisturizing properties, helps comfort.” I don’t know. All I know is I liked the hydration of this product on my skin better.
The other Chanel “dupe”
Before the new “viral” dupe from Cover Girl, there was another dupe for the Chanel product. Rose, Inc. Skin Enhance Non-Comedogenic Skin Tint Serum Foundation. These names keep getting longer and longer.
This is the one I ultimately purchased last summer. Not, that it is easier to work with than the iconic Chanel Les Beiges or more coverage. It was the price difference, this product was $50.00 or it was $50.00 which is a big difference from Chanel. This skin tint is harder to work with than either of the two products mentioned here. You have to work with it on the back of your hand first and work it into the brush. It applies beautifully after that and lasts just as long as Chanel.
The Rose Inc. skin tint foundation has microdroplets like the Cover Girl. However, I found it much more hydrating. I am not sure why this formula is harder to work with than the other two but it seems more hydration than the others. The Rose Inc. Foundation also has Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum like Chanel. It could be the squalane, although, plenty of other foundations have this ingredient. It also has some derm favorite ingredients like Polysaccharides and Sunflower Seed oil.
All of those hydrating ingredients allow for this formula to be more comfortable on the drier areas of my skin. The interesting news is that Rose Inc.’s “dupe” is now on sale for $37.00 quite a price drop. Could it be from the launch of the new Cover Girl product? Only time will tell on that front.
However, I am hopeful that more brands will come out with a foundation with microdroplet technology that is hydrating, easy to work with, and a long-lasting formulation. Oh, and at a good price point. Otherwise, I am just going to sheer out my Elf’s Halo Glow Liquid Filter and call it good.
