Massage is your passageway to a better body and mind (benefits are numerous)

Massage has its roots traced back to around 3000 BCE in India (Some say 2700 BC in China, but I am going with India). Records there indicate the arrival of Ayurveda which is known as “life health”. I love the saying “Life Health” because it compasses both body and mind. Some people believe that massage is a luxury, but the benefits for aging better, extend past that labeling of “luxury.” Keep reading to find out why, Massage is your passageway to a better body and mind.

Techniques and tools for massage

There are many types and techniques of massage because, since its conception, the art of massage has traveled across the globe and integrated with other customs and traditions. Some massage techniques have been incorporated into tools for massage and relaxation. Such as massage guns, ten units, heated back machines, scalp massagers, etc. Making massage a universal tool for any budget, location, and aliment.

All-inclusiveness

The fact that there is no exercise and dieting involved makes it also universal to everyone even some may have a special diet or cannot exercise.  In fact, in some cases, medical professionals prescribe massage for some clients. I use an FSA account to budget for my professional massages as I do believe they are helpful in my body and mind aging better. Are you surprised to know that it is on the FSA-approved expenses list? This should show how important massage can be for your mind and body.

Massage benefits for the body

Massage is well-known for alleviating tightness and tension in the muscles of the body. It also increases your mobility and flexibility in your body. When you stretch out after having a massage, you may be surprised how much more range you may have in your body movements.

Whether you like more pressure or lighter pressure in your massages, that pressure can boost your blood flow and improve your circulation. It is believed that it also speeds up the recovery of muscles and may also reduce discomfort or pain in your body. Many doctors recommend massage for injuries or recovery from surgery.

Lymphatic benefits

Lymphatic drainage is one of the most beneficial benefits for the body, in my opinion. Massage helps stimulate the lymph system, aiding in detoxification and boosting the immune system.  Also aiding in the detoxification is the consumption of water, which is why it is recommended that you drink more water after a massage to help with that detoxification.

Pain relief

Quite a few people never think about massage or the benefits of it for the body until they have pain somewhere in their body. At that point, they are in an uphill battle with their body to recover and correct the pain. Many people will use massage in a few series to help with the pain and then forget again until the pain returns. Utilizing massage regularly may keep that pain at bay, as professional athletes use massage regularly to keep them in good health for their sport.

Posture

With the use of computers in every aspect of our lives we are having more occurrences of poor posture. Not all chairs align the body in a way to help with posture issues. Even if we have a back alignment chair, we may even carry tension in our muscles from sitting or standing too long without movement. Massage can help posture issues by releasing that tension. A movement to increase the blood flow either through massage or exercise is essential to our aging well. Aging well is aging with less pain and better motion.

Benefits for the mind

Relief from pain or tension in the body is priceless. If you have experienced this type of pain, you will know that it has a big toll on your mind and your body. It is what you thinking about even if you are not in pain at the moment. You know the pain is coming and it restricts your life. It adds stress and we are all under too much stress and pressure in our daily lives. Reliefing the stress also helps with your interaction with other people. If you are relaxed you are more likely to have a better outlook on life. It also leads to being more energetic in life. Some call it “a spring in your step”.

I am sure you have read and heard that relieving stress in your life should be a goal for everyone. Health professionals encourage stress relief as it plays a major role in your overall health. That is why massage is the passageway to a better body and mind.

Massage classes or instruction
Because they are so many benefits, you may want to take a massage course or just an evening class. In many communities there are intro classes to massage or massage techniques or chair massage in the form of community courses.

If you are in a committed relationship, make it a date night or just an activity to enhance your relationship and take charge of aging better for both of you.

Or even a friends activity, learning is growing.
Look for a class in your area or perhap even an online course or instruction.

Commit to aging better
