Why as consumers are we supporting makeup for movie releases? I thought it was perhaps adolescence. As I think it is extremely engaging to look at, It wasn’t a draw for me. The stats were enlightening to me.
The biggest single buyer group for Wicked‑themed makeup appears to be adult women in the 25–54 age range, with a meaningful share of purchasers over 35 – Gaga Daily
I choose Wicked For Good, as that is the movie out now. Barbie could have been used just as easily. Same market saturation.
I see the gorgeous designed makeup covers and some pretty lip products. This is not the first time as this is Wicked: For Good or Wicked 2. We have seen a 1st round of these type of products on the market.
Key Demographics
- Women make up roughly three‑quarters of the audience engaging with Wicked products, and reported audience breakdowns show about 6% aged 13–17, 25% aged 18–24, 32% aged 25–54, and 38% over 35 – Gaga Daily
- Brand partnerships and the campaign deliberately target multiple generations — collectors and legacy musical fans (older adults) as well as trend‑driven younger buyers reached via social and beauty collabs (Gen Z and younger millennials). – ID (Influence Daily)
Are they buying them for gifts? As it is Christmas but the 1st round was in the summer. That can’t possibly be it. Makeup is a consumable so it does need replaced. If we buy makeup for every movie – we will all be in beauty wonderland. Pretty packaging but may not have any quality behind the product.
Prices
Prices seem to be in line with most of the makeup on the market. Ranging from $10 to $100.00. That isn’t any different than it normal.
Products for movie release makeup
Makeup removal products
There is everything and I mean everything. Makeup removal products. Yes, you heard me. Makeup removal products in bright pink and green. What additives are in that? Okay. You are washing it off your face, so it isn’t on there long. As well, as the cleansing agents and the preservatives probably neutralize the color additives. I don’t know. It seems counter productive. It will be interesting to see what the reviews will be for these products. Maybe Reddit will get some true reviews.
Skin Care
Face masks, which seems to be the same product just in better looking packaging. Okay even though it is silly as you will throw it away. It does look better. I can get behind that. Great gift.
Olay has a lotion set for $20.00 for wicked. This also would be a great gift. It doesn’t appear to have color additives. It is just cute packaging. Better than holiday packaging which you are embarrassed to have out past February.
If you love pink and green, this is your time. I would go for it because you will really enjoy it. One thing I have learned with all of my purchases. Don’t buy it for the packaging unless you truly love it. Otherwise, you will be disappointed.
Makeup (movie associated)
Everything from eye shadow, lip products, eyelashes, nails and even perfume. You need to be real in these purchases. I saw nothing that was made in a well made container that can be reused time and time again. This is nothing that is going to be with you through the ages. That is the type of thing that should be sold.
I love the idea of the nails and eyelashes even mascara. These products are fun and you know they are not long term. You aren’t make an “investment” in these products.
As for the other if you like the lip product – get it. The pink colors are beautiful and I love pink on most skin tones. It is brightening and so attractive. However, this is a limited product, which means if you like it you won’t be able to get it again. Don’t fall in love. This is one of my problems with limited additions among others.
Glitter for movie makeup
Oh so much Glitter. I have heard this called Devil’s dust. It does tend to linger for a long time. Glitter brings light to the face and can be beautiful. It tends to move and never totally stays where it is put. Some glitter products can stain clothes, makeup applicators and washcloths. Use disposable items for removal or application. It will just make your life easier.
Again, be real about how much you are going to wear these products. Can you share them with someone? Because that would be the only cost effective way.
Alcohol
I am not sure what this has to do with the movie. I can see makeup and movies as usually there is a lot of different make used in makeup. Although when the original Wizard of Oz came out they didn’t release a lipstick for that or any movie I am aware of. Lipstick at the time showed how our economy was doing and that didn’t even happen then. Why are we doing it now? Oh, that is right. It is thrown at us 24/7. We are being sold. That being said, I can get behind this product.

Not that I am a big drinker or that I make pretty cocktails all of time.
I know a lot of people do love to make pretty cocktails for a party. Life should be about loving things in life.
The reason I am behind this, is because you already probably have these products on hand. This is just using what you have and making something that you will like. Can be used on multiple occasions. This could be a holiday party or even a summer patio event. Google wicked cocktails and the first thing that comes up is all of the recipes.
Consumerism
I don’t know when we started this process and why we are supporting it for products that are not long term. Apparently we are supporting it so much it keeps happening and happening. Some people call this type of consumerism in this instance as “Culture jacking” or “culturejacking” is the practice of appropriating aspects of popular culture for commercial gain. It is often used as a marketing strategy, where brands and companies “jack” or take over trends from entertainment, music, and other media to stay relevant and connect with audiences, especially younger generations. – AI
Change
We need to start the change for all generations. I don’t have all of the answers. The start is to educate ourselves on consumerism, advertising, ingredients and sustainable packaging.
