Love of beauty products
I have a love-and-hate obsession with beauty products. The love factor is the joy that is felt when you find something that works well for your skin. Or a makeup product that makes the difference in how you look in your opinion. Or possibly how you feel when you get sincere and honest compliments on how your skin looks. If you feel that you look good in your skin whether it be your face, your clothes, or your appearance in other ways, it makes you feel good and more confident.
It could also be that I have always since I was a baby loved colors. I get wowed by pretty colors or formulas. I like painting as well which may be why I love foundation colors and mixing them. Just exploring how they look on my skin. I have tried so many things and that is why I decided on this website to include beauty products. Write about what you know and what you want to learn about and share with others.
Dislike factor
When you finally find a product that works well with your skin, it stops working well. All of the “noise” regarding beauty products. The advertising “wording” they are allowed to use even though it has nothing to do with their product. A lack of guidelines on the definition of that “advertising” term. You have to learn every ingredient or the Latin root to know what they put into that product because it doesn’t have to be advertised even if it is the main ingredient.
Lack of color guides
There is no universal color guide for skin tones, ranges, or definitions of what light to dark means across brands. There is not a universal guide on what tones. Some companies add tints to their glass bottles for foundations and glass already adds a bit of an illusion of a darker color as it is.
Beauty product obsession confession
The first thing to do as they say is to confess you have a problem. HAHA.
Intervention
These pictures are not “Instagram worthy” and not great quality. I snipped them from a video that my sister sent to me. And to others. I was on vacation for the Christmas holiday. My sister was watching my dog and took a video of her trip to Sephora aka my makeup area. She sent it to everyone that was there with me.
Yes, this is the stuff I didn’t take with me. I took plenty don’t you worry. There is also more in the drawers. The drawers are mainly eyeshadows, hair care, and hair tools.
Anyway, the shock and disbelief of some who didn’t know me that well was evident on their faces. “You don’t wear that much makeup”. No, I don’t look like it but there is enough there and I have quite a few steps. Skincare is always the first one.
Beauty obsession routine
No, I don’t think I am high maintenance. In today’s Instagram world, I am not up to that level. I can be ready rather quickly with my hair pulled back. Skin tint and lip protectant. Done. My routine normally does have quite a few steps but not a lot of product in each of those steps.
There are some days that I don’t put hardly anything on my face. Currently, right now, I am not wearing any eye makeup except for a dark brown liner. Using the eyeliner at the base of my lashes in a thin line makes my eyelashes look thicker. I need that. Or at least I feel like I do.
I thought I would confess in this post so that you might get a better idea of why I have a post about something in the beauty world almost every week. Most of the time, it will be more informative along with studies that I have read on the ingredients. I prefer double-blind randomized studies versus the brand study for a week. That information can be useful but while skin care takes about 3 months to make changes… a week isn’t a big help to me.
