Pottery Barn’s holiday collections are famous for their timeless, elegant decor. Their gingerbread line for the holidays is no different. They are beautiful. I also loved their looks for their gingerbread houses—often featuring soft neutrals, metallic accents, and whimsical details.
I didn’t have the budget to splurge on this item. Then, I decided to paint my own to mimic the look for less money. So, with a little paint, creativity, and a metal, plastic, wooden or any type of house (that you like), you can recreate the same festive charm for a fraction of the cost.
This project is perfect for anyone who loves holiday décor with a touch of whimsy and charm beauty, but also enjoys the hands‑on joy of crafting.
Starting this project
Target had black house for Halloween. They also had smaller ones in their dollar spot. Target is also have 50% holiday items at the beginning of the seasons. If you get things 50% that is the best deal. There are many other places to find this type of houses.
This project isn’t going to be cheap but inexpensive . Although these houses are much cheaper than some that you see in specialty stores. They are metal and great quality. I thought they looked unique but I really liked the crisscross roof. They are also unique which is something I like. I actually picked up two different types.

Supplies
Spray Paint

Spray paint has come out in my Christmas crafts every year. Not these colors. But spray paint is a great way to update or change your all types of decor.
If I don’t like the colors or they don’t blend with my theme for the year. They are probably going to get spray painted.
Anyway, I picked out two different colors. There are many colors to pick from in an array of colors. I found the caramel color I wanted for my gingerbread and I was off.

It took some time as I want to spray it inside as well. This is important as this house has a tea light. It is important to keep the caramel color for the gingerbread house.
I believe the base color came out great. With these spray paints I have not chipping and I get full coverage.
Puff Paint
I purchased puff paint in white which is in high demand this time of year. You can also even just white paint markers or white paint. I like the Tulip Puff Paint. It worked the best for me. If you have a steady hand, you may do better.
Creativity
I kept amending mine as I was never happy. But I finally got them to be what I wanted. Not exactly Pottery Barn worthy but very close for the effort I put in. Also for a great price point.

I love them. I have had both of them in my Christmas decor. They add so much charm to my decor, even though I changed them around a few times. I will be finishing some for my sister this year. This post will probably be updated for that adventure as well.

The picture at the left was taken before I decided to do more puff paint on them. I didn’t like some designs on the one so I painted over it a few times and change it.
I also finished the roof on both. That is the great thing about these your can amended them to what you like. You can finish them as you have time. They will look charming know matter where you are in this project.
These are pretty straightforward in execution. They painting is time consuming. The nozzle on the puff paint take some time to execute properly. The nozzle has a tendency to splat out. Therefore, you may want to use a paint pen. I like the puff paint for idea of the icing for gingerbread homes.
Painting your own gingerbread house is more than a craft—it’s a way to bring elegance and creativity into your holiday décor. By channeling Pottery Barn’s signature style, you’ll have a centerpiece that feels both luxurious and personal.
