Transitioning Your Home Décor for Autumn: Simple swaps for a Cozy Vibe

As the leaves change, so should your home décor! Transitioning from summer to fall doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. Here are easy, budget-friendly swaps to bring autumn indoors.

You can incorporate autumn into your home rather easily as falls colors go beautiful with most color palettes already in your home. Some quick swaps are to replace light cotton throws with chunky knits or layer light weight fall blankets over another light weight blanket that you already own. Layering is in baby, with the new Ralph Lauren trend.

Throw blankets can be thrown any where for a cozy look and most can be rather inexpensive or your local thrift store could have these blanket for a low cost.

Refresh your space with new pillow covers in beautiful textiles for a cozy feel. You may have seen from my previous post the blanket below. As mentioned in this post this beautiful herringbone blanket is under $20.00 at Walmart. Also the lumbar pillow by this blanket is also from Walmart and just a great quality. The pillow is no longer available or I would link it here. However, many places have these type of pillows in autumn colors.

Affordable Autumn Accents

Incorporating pumpkins, rustic trays and candle holders for seasonal charm. Thrift stores and DIY projects can help you stay on budget as well.

Pumpkins

The first picture, is an inexpensive pumpkin pick from Hobby Lobby along with some beautiful leaf picks. Now, you may not like the look with these autumn leaves that is certainly up to you. I feel like the color of the pumpkin and some leaves are more of a natural look to falls. Just showing that these added accents can be incorporated into most styles.

Updating your Floral Bouquets

The 2nd picture – my work spring floral bouquet that I added 2 fall accent florals. Both of these were purchased at Hobby Lobby on sale for under $10.00. It changed the bouquet from spring to fall for very little money. The silk leaves in this bouquet add a bit of luxury to this bouquet. Not to mention the unique array of colors they bring to the decor.

Unexpected autumn color focus points

3rd picture – is an unexpected color for fall decor and adds a focal point to the floral decor. I love it. This could possibly go into a Christmas season if you need to add more color near the inner branches of your Christmas tree. That probably is if you use blue in your Christmas Decor.

I plan on changing my porch to a autumn to a Christmas decor with little effort using blue and copper. Stay tuned for that next. It is going to be beautiful. I am waiting on some ribbon from Etsy. Ribbon is also an expensive way to add accents that could look very high end if done correctly.

Rustic Trays

Rustic Trays can be inexpensive and add coziness to your decor for little money. TJ Maxx often have several different trays on their shelves at any time of the year. Along with thrifty stores or even Facebook market place.

This picture shows my rustic tray full of fall folage and two chestnuts with a deep burgundy that shows the warm colors of this season.

You can also see my vintage lanterns in the photo. I like using lanterns in my decor as they add charm and a cozy, warm vibe. Lanterns can be expensive. However, you may have seen that Dollar Tree has some lanterns with similar to Pottery Barn. I don’t know about their quality but you could do the look for less. Again, check your thrift stores or TJ Maxx.

If you are handy and have wood scraps laying around. Making a lantern or rustic tray may be in your wheel house. Do it. I love making things out of nothing.

These are all affordable accents to change your decor to a cozy, fall vibe and stay within your budget.

Sustainable Tips

Extend your seasonal decor
Extend your seasonal Decor

Repurpose Summer décor—turn glass vases into fall centerpieces by adding dried flowers or branches. This is idea is much like what I used for my work spring bouquet. I also used by foliage from my oriential grass from my back yard that you may trim in the fall anyway to use for a fall bouquet.

Bring the outdoors in

Tall Grass

To use your tall grass – put a string around the base of the grass several times pull it very tight and tie it. Cut the grass at the point that you have decided to trim under the string that you have tied on. That way the grass is still held together. I put floral wire around mine after I cut it. That held it together better. Then I put a ribbon around it.

I want to change up the ribbon so I will show that in the next blog post or I will update this one to show it.

Royal Smoke Tree

My sister has a Royal Smoke Tree that I have used the branches that I trimmed off that tree in the fall for a beautiful burgundy and dark purple foliage floral by putting that in a vase. That was very inexpensive but looked beautiful. I don’t think I took a picture last year. However, you can see how beautiful the leaves on this tree and how great they would look in a vase.

What do you think of the season and are you going to transition your home décor for Fall?

Next transform your porch into an eye catching display that goes from Fall to Christmas with little effort. You can also use a part of the ideas in that post to bring the outdoors inside (indoors) as well.
